St. Mary's Hospital at Amsterdam has announced the receipt of a grant for $17,000 from the Northeastern New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The funds are used to continue the Healing Touch Buddies Program through The Center for Complementary Therapies under the direction of Sister Rita Jean DuBrey. Healing Touch Buddies is a volunteer program that provides healing touch treatments to women with breast cancer in Montgomery County as well as all of the surrounding counties free of charge.
Healing touch is a gentle non-invasive complementary therapy with the beneficial effects of pain reduction, relaxation and stress reduction. Participants in the program range from women with early diagnosis up to more than 20 years in recovery.
Healing touch, practiced throughout the world, is based on a philosophy of caring for the whole person: body, mind and spirit.
The Healing Touch Buddies Program is held on a monthly basis and is available to any person who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. All meetings are held at the Carondelet Pavilion, 380 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. The program is free of charge to all breast cancer patients.
